Imagine a world where thousands of peer-reviewed journals, books, datasets, and other research output are no longer available online, a world without persistent identifiers, registries, and standards for data exchange, where technical development priorities are not in alignment with community values, and where the creation of standards is not community-driven.

Continued Support for Open Infrastructure from Canada!
Thanks to the generous support of the Canadian Research Knowledge Network (CRKN) and the Canadian Association of Research Libraries (CARL) and the Consortium of Swiss Academic Libraries (see recent news) we have exceeded the 6 million euro mark of funds raised for SCOSS family infrastructures!
Under a consortial approach administered by CRKN, Canadian research libraries pledged 152,000 Euro for the recently-launched SCOSS 5th funding cycle infrastructures Research Data Alliance (RDA) and Software Heritage.
Why support open infrastructures?
Adopt and adapt these talking points to advocate for sustaining open infrastructures, which are the non-commercial providers of scholarly communication resources and services, including software, that support a fully open and equitable scholarly communications ecosystem
Swiss institutions renew support for Open infrastructures!
Continuing a tradition of generosity towards Open Science infrastructures, member institutions of the Consortium of Swiss Academic Libraries have pledged a total of 362,250 euros over the course of the next three years from 2024-2026.

Having raised well over 5.8 million EUR to sustain vital, non-commercial infrastructure and services within the Open Science community; the Global Sustainability Coalition for Open Science Services (SCOSS) is once again searching for new potential candidate organisations to fund during the 2025 to 2027 SCOSS funding cycle.
SCOSS infrastructures stronger together
On November 30 2023, SCOSS organised a webinar with the theme ‘Building connections’. The session aimed to reflect on how SCOSS infrastructures have progressed, what the case for open infrastructure is and gave the opportunity to meet some of the SCOSS Board who shared their visions for the future.
Going into fifth gear: SCOSS launches its 5th pledging round
“SCOSS is thrilled to announce the launch of its fifth pledging cycle. Both of the chosen projects are already an established and well-known infrastructure with high usage making an important contribution to open science. They need community support to innovate, broaden their global reach and to increase resilience and financial sustainability. We look forward to welcoming RDA and Software Heritage to the SCOSS Family.
On behalf of the SCOSS Board I extend my congratulations to the supported infrastructure for this round. Although the economic downturn and restricted budgets can make pledging more difficult, please do consider helping sustain priority open science infrastructure by pledging a percentage of your relevant budget to structurally help infrastructures on their way to sustainability.”
Martin Borchert, Chair of the SCOSS Board.
